Welcome to our FAQs— your go-to guide for quick, clear answers to the most common questions about our work and services.
Registering for our retreat is simple and personal. Start by filling out our Contact Form or calling Jon directly at (413) 687-7955. Once we receive your information, Jon will reach out to schedule a brief conversation. This lets us learn more about your situation, answer your questions, and help determine whether this retreat is the right fit for your needs and timing. We handle every step with care, privacy, and respect — there’s no pressure or commitment until you feel ready.
Sharing your grief story can be helpful, but you choose how much or how little you share. Many find comfort simply by being present in our compassionate environment. Everything unfolds gently, without pressure or expectation. If you have more questions, please contact us through our Contact page, call Jon at 413-687-7955, or email Jon at jon.terrell@gmail.com.
Our retreat registration includes shared lodging, nourishing meals, all retreat materials, and guided sessions. We accommodate most dietary needs — just let us know when you register. If you have any more questions, feel free to reach out through our Contact page, call Jon at 413-687-7955, or email Jon at jon.terrell@gmail.com.
Bring comfortable clothing, a journal, and any personal comfort items — such as a photo, blanket, or small keepsake — along with an open heart. Our retreats typically run from Thursday afternoon through Sunday afternoon, so please pack enough clothing for the full weekend. If you have more questions, please contact us through our Contact page, call Jon at 413-687-7955, or email Jon at jon.terrell@gmail.com.
Our groups are intentionally small — usually 8 to 11 participants — so everyone receives care and personal attention in an intimate, trusting atmosphere. If you have more questions, please contact us through our Contact page, call Jon at 413-687-7955, or email Jon at jon.terrell@gmail.com.
Our retreats welcome anyone navigating loss — whether from death, divorce, illness, life transition, or deep emotional exhaustion. Some participants come after a recent loss; others after years of carrying unspoken grief. You don’t need to be “ready” in any special way — only open to healing at your own pace.
Almost everyone does. It’s normal to arrive anxious or unsure, and equally normal to leave feeling lighter, grounded, and connected. Your courage in saying yes is already part of the healing.
The nearest major airport to our retreats in Massachusetts is Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Hartford, Connecticut — about 1 hour and 15 minutes by car from Sunderland. It’s the most convenient option for most travelers.

A Grief, Loss, and Difficult Emotions Retreat is a safe, supportive space to gently process pain, loss, and difficult emotions. Through guided reflection, small-group sharing, movement, and quiet rest, you’ll have time to release what you’ve been holding inside and begin reconnecting with peace and purpose.
Tears are welcome here. Crying, shaking, silence, and laughter are all natural expressions of healing. Trained facilitators are nearby at all times to help you ground yourself, breathe, and stay safe as feelings arise.
No. The program is non-denominational and inclusive. We draw on universal principles of compassion, mindfulness, and inner wisdom. People of all backgrounds and beliefs are welcome.
Yes, though we encourage each person to focus on their own process. Some find it healing to attend with a loved one, while others prefer space on their own. We’re happy to discuss what might work best for you.
Retreat fees vary by length and location. Most retreats cost $935; our Florida retreat costs $1,295. Programs typically begin Thursday afternoon and conclude Sunday afternoon. In the summer, we offer a longer retreat, Healing Emotional Pain, which currently costs $ 1,095.
We accept Zelle (preferred). Venmo, PayPal, and personal checks. If cost is a concern, please reach out — we’re happy to explore options together, including a payment plan.
The retreat moves through three phases: Arrival & Connection – settling in and meeting the group. Deep Healing Work – guided emotional release and support. Integration & Renewal – reflection, grounding, and preparing to return home. Every step is optional and lovingly supported. For more, visit the Main Retreat page.
We provide gentle integration guidance, journaling prompts, and the option for follow-up sessions or community check-ins if you require more therapy. You won’t leave alone—ongoing support is part of your journey, and individual counseling sessions are available for those without a therapist.

Most retreats run 3 to 4 days, from Thursday evening through Sunday afternoon, in peaceful natural settings such as Western Massachusetts, Florida, or California. Summer retreats are 5-day events, with more outdoor activities. We choose locations for their quiet beauty and restorative energy.
Most retreats are held in Western Massachusetts at Star Dance Ranch, which is also Jon's home.
Your deposit is 100% refundable 60+ days before a retreat start date, except for a $100 processing fee. Your payment is 50% refundable 30-59 days before the retreat start date, except for a $100 processing fee. Your payment is non-refundable if you cancel less than 30 days before the retreat start date.
If an emergency arises, contact us — we handle changes with understanding and fairness, and sometimes we can arrange for the fees to be transferred to a future retreat.
Therapy offers ongoing regular support. A retreat creates an immersive, focused space away from daily life, where healing can go deeper and faster. The combination of skilled facilitation, community, and time in nature often leads to breakthroughs that surprise even long-time therapy clients.
Jon Terrell, M.A., leads the retreats as a psychotherapist and meditation teacher with more than 30 years of experience in emotional healing and grief recovery. Jon and his team create a grounded, loving environment where genuine transformation can unfold.
If you feel stuck in sadness, numbness, anger, confusion, or pain — or if you sense that part of you is asking for relief — you are ready. There's no perfect moment. Healing begins the instant you choose to show up for yourself.
Participants often report wishing they had chosen to attend sooner to get much-needed emotional support and relief.
No previous experience is necessary. Everything is guided clearly and compassionately. If you already work with a therapist, this retreat can beautifully complement that process and speed up your progress.
If you have additional questions, we’d love to hear from you. You can contact us through the Contact page, call Jon at 413-687-7955, or email Jon at jon.terrell@gmail.com
